_____________

Wirbelwerk

  • Space. There is negative space around the sculpture which shows light being reflected off of the glass.
  • Shape. The sculpture is a 3D shape that spans the ceiling and extends to the ground, twisting as it reaches.
  • Focal Point. The top of the sculpture is large and extends down to a point creating an area of emphasis at the bottom.
  • Balance. There is a symmetrical balance in the sculpture, if you were to cut it in half both sides would be equal.
_____________

The Missing Left Brain

  • Color. The light on the wall consistently changes colors to show the beauty of the creativity and emotion found in the right brain
  • Shape. The colors take form changing and moving, filling up the entire wall
  • Balance. By using a circular screen to reflect, the colorful shapes move in a symmetrical order so both halves are always the same
_____________

The New York City Waterfalls

  • Rhythm. There is no implied movement, because it is falling water so the movement is already there, the speed of the water as it falls defines it's rhythm.
  • Proportion/Scale. The placement of the waterfall under the Brooklyn Bridge is used as a reference of scale to remind us just how large the bridge is. Olafur said that "Once you know the size of the waterfall, you know the size of the bridge, and you know the size of your own body."
